Mansfield, Louisiana - Why the fuss about the Mansfield battlefield?

“It is really very simple. That field where the Confederates in April 1864 scored a stunning victory that turned back the invading Union forces from the interior of Texas and, where many a brave Texas boy fell in defense of the Lone Star state, is literally being systematically destroyed by strip mining. As you read this message today and every day for the foreseeable future, that hallowed ground is being obliterated.

A mining company, owned by AEP SWEPCO, has purchased leases well into the center of the battle's Phase 1. They have not started to mined this area. You can see pictures of this destruction by clicking on the the picture of the Allen House. So, what to do? It has been said that ‘Some people look at things and ask why. Other people look at things and say why not?’ Which mind are you? Let ’s make a difference and say, ‘Why not?’” . . .Dan Laney, President, Austin Civil War Round Table, Inc.
